11 Community Services leaders from across the Parish of St. James were awarded on Sunday, February 2, 2020, at the Seventh-day Adventist Conference Centre, Mount Salem, Montego Bay, during a special ceremony and concert event.
The acknowledgement was extended by the Parish Community Service Executive Federation, in partnership with the West Jamaica Conference Community Services for their long and outstanding service.
Maureen Bucknor, who was awarded for 31 years of service and is a member of the Orange Church expressed that “It is an excellent feeling, I am very appreciative of the acknowledgement. It is not that I was looking for an award but I am very happy nonetheless for the recognition. The Lord has placed us here to do His service,” continued Bucknor “we are His hands and feet. We should be very glad that he asks us, humans, to work for him for our fellow men.”
Pastor Stephen Drummond, the Education, Spirit of Prophecy and Health Ministries Director of the West Jamaica Conference, main speaker for the event challenged the honourees and the audience not to be discouraged when doing good, despite the negative feedback.
“To serve humanity is not an easy task,” exclaimed Pastor Drummond. “There are times you will do good and people will criticize you, do good just the same. Sometimes you will do good and persons will still despise you, but do good anyway. There are times you will become discouraged but lift your head high because you are doing the work of the Master,” said Pastor Drummond, who was deputizing for Pastor Glen O. Samuels, director of Community Services.
President of the St James Community Services Federation, Mrs Phyllis Wallace was very pleased with the overall response of the awardees and those who came to give support.
“The programme was a successful undertaking and I believe it will motivate other persons to come on board the community service programme in the churches,” said Wallace. Mrs Wallace also believes that the programme was “inspiring” and that the “attendees would like to have a repeat” of the event.comments powered by Disqus
